Milton Keynes South MP, Iain Stewart, has welcomed the news 14,663 affordable homes will be built in the South East for young people and families.
Iain Stewart MP has campaigned on providing more appropriate, affordable housing for Milton Keynes to help young people into home ownership while ensuring there is sufficient infrastructure and avoiding reckless overexpansion.
The scheme is being backed by £946.8 million of funding here in the South East, and £8.6 billion nationwide as part of a landmark moment for the Affordable Homes Programme.
The new affordable homes will help more young people and families get on the housing ladder, building on other schemes from the Conservative Government to help first-time buyers, including First Homes– offering new homes at a 30 per cent discount on the open market value– and the 95% mortgage guarantee scheme – which helps first-time buyers secure a mortgage with just a 5% deposit.
Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South, said:
“Owning your own home should not be the privilege of a few, but an affordable possibility for young people and families across Milton Keynes and around the country.
“I am delighted thousands of people across the South-East will now have their dream of home ownership realised through the Affordable Homes Programme, with 14,663 homes delivered thanks to the Conservative Government’s £946.8 million investment.
“By helping more people and their families buy a home in their local area, we are levelling up opportunity across the country – while creating good skilled jobs as we build back better from the pandemic.”
